Back in 2010, a dairy farmer killed 50 out of his 100 or so cows and then killed himself. He chose the 50 who required more attention and would suffer complications without that extreme attention. In this case they were the cows that needed to be milked twice a day. He let the younger ones who didn’t require this support alive.
Though at first glance, I found his killing of the cows to be horrendous, and though I still disagree with his actions, I believe that he had good intentions for what he did. I think he knew that the cows wouldn’t be tended to right away and he didn’t want them to suffer.
I don’t know much about farming, but I can’t imagine the level of despair this man must have been experiencing to take such drastic measures. He ran the farm alone as his children didn’t want to continue running the business. My heart goes out to the man, his family and the poor cows who were killed in the process.
