Hector Macho Camacho on life support after being shot.

Last night a gunman opened fire into a vehicle while Hector Camacho and a  friend were parked and seated. The friend was pronounced DOA and Camacho was listed in critical condition. The way it read it sounded to me like he was going to be just fine, hit in the face and neck, but expected to survive. I was wrong. Overnight Camacho was put on life support and his heart stopped once already. His mother is flying to Puerto Rico from the mainland to examine her son’s situation and determine if he should remain on life support.

Camacho was always a controversial figure, I remember him best for his fight with Julio Cesar Chavez when I was a teen and where he had his ass severely handed to him. I’m rooting for the brother and I hope he comes out of this one alive. At this point it’s all up in the air, and doctors say that should he survive he could end up paralyzed. I don’t know what else to say other than “this really sucks”.  I hope that the men responsible for this are brought to swift justice, and I hope that Camacho makes it. The guy had a lot of trouble with drugs and a host of other issues, but man, this isn’t the way for anyone to leave this world. There was talk about a Camacho comeback, now at 50 years of age, hey, why not!

Many people out there question whether or not a .22 can kill or hurt a person, well, here’s a man that is tough as nails, and he’s in the toughest fight of his life at the hands of a .22, while another lays dead due to the same caliber. Yeah, a .22 can kill you.  Man, I hope you make it my brother, I really hope you make it. Condolences go out to the family and friends of the unidentified victim in the car.

Please note the date on a post, it may be an old view. Growth and change.

.22 are evil; their damage is caused by its inability to exit the body but bounces all around inside you until it stops. Give me a .38 or a .45 any time; it’ll leave a big hole but at least it’ll leave my body. I have a friend from HS who still has a .22 in her arm; too close to the nerve to remove it without causing a loss of functionality.

As for Camacho, it sucks what happened to him, I hope he pulls through. Was this incidental or on purpose?

Everyone speculates that it may have been premeditated, but at this point there are no suspects or motives. I hope he pulls through as well.

This is so sad. He was such a great boxer. Yes, even though a .22 caliber is a small slug it can do a lot of damage. Hope he pulls through but it doesn’t look good.

Yeah, it will be a great loss for the latino and boxing community. Granted, this man wasn’t the greatest role model, but he could certainly pack a house. Here’s rooting for Camacho…
