I came across a tweet today that stated the following:
Seeing that tweet confused me, and I decided to inquire. You see the response above as well. This led to an interesting conversation, and it helped me understand how it can be deemed offensive by Asians. This is no different to Asians, than black face, or the sort of images we see from the 1930s of black entertainers dancing and prancing around for the entertainment of white people. I get it.
Initially, I thought it was something to do with the name, something I may have missed. But no, it’s the actual content. The following news story summarizes it, as well as illustrating how the ballet is working to make it more acceptable to all people.
