I spent five years trying to figure out how to write my memoirs. I couldn’t really afford to take writing classes, nor would I have known where to sign up. There aren’t many classes out there teaching writers how to write about the tragedies of growing up in the Bronx during the 80’s…
And then one day a light bulb went off in my head that someone, somewhere was the first person to ever write their memoirs… A person who hadn’t the luxury of taking classes to write their book.
And so I got to work and became both the student and the teacher.
Today I tell aspiring writers… Classes are wonderful if you have the time and money.
However, no one is going to be able to tell your story the way you can.
How brutally honest are you willing to be in sharing your story with the world? Are you up for the challenge of reliving the suffering all over again simply to leave a recorded document of what you survived? Do you have an overwhelming passion inside yourself to share your history with future generations to come?
If the answers align themselves in favor of a book. Then I challenge you to start writing today…
