Mentally unstable man in the streets!

Yesterday I went out to Jamaica, Queens to record some music with my son, my sister, and Nathan P. This is NYC, and we all know that there is never a shortage of excitement here! This post is to serve as a warning that insanity can strike anywhere at anytime, so never forget your NYC safety lessons!

So, as expected, in typical NYC fashion, yesterday some guy decided that he didn’t like my little sister. Now mind you, my sister is 19, born and raised in the Bronx, but to me, she is still that little baby girl that I used to hold in my arms nearly two decades ago.

So this guy was screaming at my little sister “I told you to stop coming here, I told you way back in 1973!” Never mind that my sister was born in the mid 90’s, or that she clearly is a young adult nowhere near in appearance to someone who was around in 1973! This should have been an indicator to me that something wasn’t right with this guy, but of course my protective instincts kicked in, and as soon as I saw what was happening I pounced on this guy.

So how did the opportunity arise for this mentally unstable man to get close to my little sister? Well, the young one had exited the train before me, and as such she was out of the train station first. When I arrived at the top my son says to me “dad, there is a guy screaming at your sister,” my eyes open wide and immediately my adrenaline shoots through the roof, I then took action.

I quickly hustled over to the scene where this was happening, I cut right in front of this guy’s line of vision, I physically cut his walking path to keep him from moving any closer to my little sister. I looked at him dead in the eyes, my body language made it very clear that he will be unable to advance any further. So he stops walking towards my sister, he then focuses his eyes on me. Once I have his attention I ask him “What’s going on here man? What’s up?” I speak very firmly, my energy makes it very clear that I’m ready, willing and able to break every single bone in his body. However, though I am firm and bearing teeth, I am not overly aggressive or confrontational.

He stares at me, it appears he’s not even aware of his behavior or harassment. I see this dazed look in his eyes and I realize that there is clearly something mentally off with this dude. At this point I have concluded that there is no real threat from him, then he says “You know back in 1973, I said it, I said it.” That’s when I said “Ok my friend, you have a good day now, go away and stop following us.” Me and my crew then walked away and got on our bus.

It took me a few minutes to turn it down after this happened, but I’m glad it didn’t escalate. I really don’t want to hurt anyone, and I don’t want to risk getting anyone I’m with hurt. But let it be known, if you trouble my family, I will not hesitate to take you down!
