The newspaper De Morgen thought that it would be humorous to print a picture of President Obama and the first lady photoshopped to look as monkeys. I don’t know about you guys, but I think this act was pretty messed up. Don’t get me wrong, I am no fan of the Obamas, particularly Michelle Obama. However, it is one thing to disagree with their politics, or her spending tax dollars on a vacation to China, or wait. I digress. I take issue with those things, but it is a completely different thing to attack them on such a personal level like this paper did. I don’t think it is funny at all, and really makes the people from this newspaper look very bad.
Personally, I’m all for freedom of speech, and I support freedom of the press. Furthermore, I don’t subscribe to the politically-correct rhetoric that the left usually pushes. However, if you are going to print something like this, then you must expect that there will be some backlash! Even folks like myself that have no love for the Obamas as a political entity will rise to condemn this type of behavior.
It seems to me that De Morgen needed some hits on their website, and wanted to move some papers. This, my waffle making friends, is not the way to do it. Think things through a little more carefully next time, and if your intent was to make headlines, well, congratulations to you then.
