Rand Paul, say it ain't so!

As a citizen of the United States of America, one of my rights based on the Constitution of the United States of America, is the right to vote. Let me repeat that first part, as a citizen. The fifteenth amendment says the following: The Fifteenth Amendment (Amendment XV) to the United States Constitution prohibits the federal and state governments from denying a citizen the right to vote based on that citizen’s “race, color, or previous condition of servitude.” The key takeaway from this amendment is the word citizen.

Remember that we are now in a country where there are eleven million or more individuals who have no right, or legal permission to be in the country. Therefore, the fifteenth amendment does not apply to them. Regardless of your stance on amnesty, this point does not change. The question one has to ask is: Are you allowed to vote? The answer to that is no, unless you are a United States Citizen. A lot of people that are not allowed to vote may look like citizens. So how are we supposed to determine who is allowed to vote, as a citizen, and who is not? What about the dead people that have ended up voting? What about the individuals who have voted multiple times? How are we supposed to keep tabs on numbers, track the process, without a system in place?

Why would anyone have a problem with putting a system in place that prevents cheating? What is the problem with everyone who is legally allowed to vote, having to identify themselves and prove that they are within their rights? It sounds to me that the only people who would have a problem with this process being in place are people that are up to no good. Know what I’m saying?

In any case, I have always been a champion for Rand Paul. He has been one of my favorites, and a front runner on the Angel Rodriguez presidential voting plan. However, he has wavered on an issue that have no room for wavering. I can understand him compromising on some of the lesser issues, but on the right to vote? That is one that is clear as the day, not up for misinterpretation, and provides little wiggle room. This was nothing more than pandering, pandering to a group of people that have no intention of voting for him, not now, not ever. Period. Rand, there is no way in hell that you get the liberal vote, that’s just not going to happen. I’ve covered the topic before, “How does Rand Paul get the Latino vote.” The post was not received very well by the Latino Community.

Since then, Rand has done a moonwalk which even the late Michael Jackson would envy, stating that he was not coming out against voter i.d, or attacking his party. He states that he recognizes voter fraud is an issue, but thinks that the Republican party should be focused on showing black, latino, and other minority voters how we are making it easier for them to vote. He believes that the focus here is wrong, and offending people. Here’s a thought though, you don’t want to offend your supporter base. You don’t offend your party by calling them crazy. I’d say you are better off risking offending the people that already hate you, the ones that will never, ever vote for you, but don’t lose the ones that support you and put you in office.

I don’t know how I feel about Rand Paul anymore. I won’t write him off completely over this, he’s still a viable candidate. However, Rand, going forward, compromise should be saved for items where it is reasonable. Voter i.d is not one of them.
