Yes people, you read that correctly. Hollywood is looking to do a reboot of the classic film Labyrinth. A labyrinth reboot, now I’m not entirely sure how I feel about that. My initial reaction was disgust, then I continued to research and came upon more information.
So here’s my first question, are they doing this because Bowie died, and they want a quick buck, or is this something that was cooking before?
The answer to that question is crucial to a project like this going forward. Why? Oh, allow me to elaborate. If the person being tapped to do this film, Nicole Perlman, who co-wrote Guardians of the Galaxy, is truly a fan, then it might work. If they planned to do this before Bowie’s passing, and they truly love the Goblin Master, then it just might work.
However, if this is some publicity stunt to try and capitalize on David Bowie’s untimely passing, then I have four words for you: Jem and the Holograms! Feel me? Do not ruin the legacy if you don’t have the true passion for it.
I thought that GOTG was an amazing film, truly a great film. The talent and potential is there, but the intent behind this idea is going to be crucial in determining if this film will be a success or a major, epic fail!
As of this point, they have not stated whether or not this would be a reboot, or a sequel of sorts. I’m not entirely against this, but as I said moments ago, your intentions better be right! Otherwise, you are going to piss off an entire generation of Labyrinth fans!
Tread with caution Perlman, tread with caution!
What do you think? Should Hollywood touch Labyrinth, or just leave the classics alone? Sound off in the comments, tweet me, and make your voice heard!
