Let us not forget why most of us are off from work this coming Monday. While we are bbq’ing, at the beach, remember our heroes, the men and women that we are supposed to honor on this day. Remember this while you are doing whatever it is you are doing this long weekend.
Today as I ran my 5 miles, I passed by the Statue of a Soldier in Forest Park. Next to it there were ribbons, flowers and a small group of people, some of which were tearful. I stopped running, went over and stood by the ribbons and flowers and I presented arms (saluted) towards the statue and towards the group. Noticing my Air Force shirt and hat, they smiled weakly and mouthed “thank you”. I smiled and said “I am still here, a bigger thank you goes to those men and women and the lives sacrifice for our country.” We all smiled, I nodded then continued running.
Remember this: Memorial day commemorates U.S. Service Members who died while in military service.
I have said it time and time again, we may not always agree with the politics, or the wars, but never blame or forget the men and women that go out and put themselves in danger to do the job that most of us don’t want to do. Whether they want to or not, it is now their job, pays their bills, and they are doing what they have to do.
God Bless our fallen brothers and sisters.
If you’d like to help out our living, breathing troops over seas, please see this article on the adopt a platoon initiative, it also contains many other resources where you can donate directly. If you see a service member during Fleet Week, make sure to say thank you.
