Those of you that have been watching the news are probably aware that there was a shooting in Bryant Park. According to our friends at the Gothamist, a man with dreadlocks opened fire and shot two individuals. According to witness accounts and preliminary reports, the shooting may have been spurred on because the gunman wanted the victim’s coat. I don’t know how accurate that is, but it’s worth mentioning.
I promise I am not going to make this a political post, but one can’t help wonder if a criminal like this would be so brave in a place like Texas or Arizona where the likelihood of a civilian being armed is much greater. Both shooting victims are expected to survive. However, one of them may be paralyzed from the waist down. It’s a damn shame that in this day and age a person cannot go and simply have some fun at an ice-skating rink without having their lives completely changed forever.
NYCTalking sends out our prayers to the victims, their families, and their friends. It is my hope that both victims make a speedy recovery, and God willing the young man will walk again. This type of shooting shows us that you never truly are safe, even tourist spots such as a skating rink is not off-limits to these pathetic criminals. Stay safe out there my friends.
