Some of New York City’s premier female artists will be teaming up on February 13th for a love-themed concert, with all proceeds donated to Variety, the Children’s Charity of New York, to transform the lives of under-served children through the arts. They will perform a mix of their original songs, as well as covers of some of the best love songs. The “Heart the Arts” benefit concert, hosted by The Vanity Belles, is also sponsored by Karlsson’s Vodka & Gibson Studios.
Variety New York strongly believes that the arts support creativity and equip children to succeed academically, vocationally and in life. It is estimated that 60% of children in the Tri-state area don’t have access to any form of arts education, with that number well over 70% when looking at African American and Hispanic populations.
The Vanity Belles, Cosmo-Country duo Carrie Welling and Jessi Rae Waltz, has been involved in many fund raising events, but Variety New York is near to their heart. “When I was in college, one of my on-campus jobs was to create and run an after-school music program at one of the local elementary schools. I had the opportunity to not only implement a program that included musical opportunities, but dance, painting, arts & crafts, knitting… the sky was the limit,” recalls Jessi Rae Waltz. “Variety is a striking organization to me in that it plays such an active role in creating these same opportunities for kids in New York and beyond. They truly understand that education and development doesn’t stop in the halls of the academic wing and that creative expression is vital. Giving children the outlet to create, and seeing their dreams come to life, is truly one of the most inspiring and humbling experiences I’ve had the good fortune of witnessing. I am proud to be sponsoring such a wonderful organization with an incredibly talented group of women and fellow artists” Jessi Rae Waltz continues.
The line-up for the “Heart the Arts” benefit also includes Anna Krantz, Rebecca Haviland & Whiskey Heart, Mieka Pauley, Rachel Potter, Bri Arden, Ali Isabella and Selena Garcia.
Karlsson’s Vodka will be sponsoring discounted specialty cocktails for the evening and Gibson Studios not only sponsored the rehearsal space for the artists, but is also donating a tour of their historic “Electric Lady Studios” to Variety New York for their teen tour groups. Gibson will also be providing the musical instruments for the artists for the evening.
“Heart the Arts” benefit concert will take place from 7-9pm at Rockwood Music Hall (196 Allen Street, between E Houston & Stanton St, Manhattan). Tickets are available at www.rockwoodmusichall.com for $15 advance, or $20 at the door. For more information on Variety New York, visit www.varietyny.org
