The lady and I wanted to go to one of our favorite places this weekend, Ariyoshi. We drove over, and to our great disappointment, they were just closing for the afternoon. Bummer!
However, she remembered having seen this place called Vera, so we decided to try it out. The restaurant is an average size spot, and we were there around 3pm, it was relatively quiet. There were two ladies working, one who seemed okay about being there on Memorial day, and the other one looked like she was miserable.
We ordered some coconut juice, and a soft shell crab appetizer. The app was pretty good, it wasn’t soggy and had a nice flavor to it.
As my main dish I had the whole red snapper and some rice. It was okay, nothing mind blowing.
My wife had this spicy chicken dish that I didn’t even try. I had to teach that night and didn’t want to take any risks with spicy food. She asked for it to be made mild, and even so seemed to find it very spicy. So be aware that their spicy, is probably really spicy.
The bill came out to like $50 or so for the two of us, that’s fairly reasonable for a nice meal in NYC. Overall, I thought the food was okay, but with so many Thai places closer to me, some of which have made a great impression, it’s not likely I’d return unless I had a similar situation.
