3 Simple techniques to fight allergies

Allergy season is here, and many of you are already suffering. We all have our health issues, and having allergies sucks, but there are a few things you can do to make your life easier. Here are 3 simple techniques to fight allergies!

1. Wear a face mask.

I know that in the U.S, we are very self conscious about our appearance, and the likelihood of seeing people walk around wearing one of these is slim to none. I think most of us would suffer the allergies than being caught dead with this on.

But hear me out, my buddy who works in a hospital was wearing one of these. I approached him and asked if he was wearing this to protect us, or himself. In Asia, people wear these all the time. Whenever someone gets a cold, they wear a mask to protect everyone else from catching it. Also, due to the heavy pollution, these are often sported. It’s quite common.

My friend said that he was wearing it to protect himself. This prevents the pollen from going up his nose and into his system. When asked if it has helped him, he told me that there is a reason he’s actually wearing it. If it didn’t work, he wouldn’t wear it. He said that this has completely stopped his allergy symptoms!

So put the ego aside, and put the mask on!

2. Take a shower!

Pollen gets stuck on your clothing and body hair. Another tip that one of my friends shared was that you should take a shower immediately upon arriving at home. If it gets on your clothes or hair, it can make it into your nose, and then the symptoms will get you! So in addition to wearing the mask, take a quick rinse upon arriving at home. I’m not sure if you are supposed to throw the clothing in the laundry after one wear, but it seems logical that you not wear them again as the pollen will likely get on them and up your nose as well.

3. Saline nose spray.

These methods, though helpful are not 100% guaranteed to prevent some pollen from going up your nose. Another thing you can do is use saline to clean your nostrils. This would remove any pollen that may have made it way up your nose.

Life is unfair sometimes, as far as I know, I suffer from no allergies. But many of you folks do, and I’m hoping that these quick tips will help you and ease your suffering. Let us know if you try this, and if you have any to share, drop them in the comments section!
