The tragic death of 4-year-old Lloyd Morgan, who was struck by a bullet during a shootout in the Bronx at 9:30pm, is an absolute heartbreak. He passed away shortly after at a hospital. My deepest condolences go out to his family during this unimaginably painful time.
How do we live in a society where an innocent little boy loses his life to senseless gun violence? It is difficult to put into words the grief that his family must be experiencing right now.
Assemblyman Marcos Crespo stated that this tragedy has shifted his perspective on “stop and frisk,” saying that whatever needs to be done to stop the violence should be done. It raises an important conversation about the balance between public safety measures and community impact. When violence reaches this level, the discussion around effective intervention becomes impossible to ignore.
We have seen time and again that when preventable violence claims innocent lives, it calls all of us to take a serious look at what more can be done to protect our communities.
