We headed to another adoption event this past weekend, this one hosted by Korean K9 Rescue. They had a good selection of dogs on hand including poodles and several Jindo dogs. The event was set up with both indoor and outdoor space in their garden, and it drew a solid crowd of about 45 people. The organizers had put together a yoga class as part of the event, though lets be honest, all of us were there for the dogs rather than the downward dogs.

I kept things low key with the yoga portion since I wanted to avoid anything that might strain my neck. A few basic stretches and that was it. The real draw was spending time with the dogs, and there were plenty to meet. We’d been following some of the Pomeranians on their social media, so it was nice to finally meet them in person. The star of the day though was definitely Bambi. She was a bundle of energy, bouncing around the space and soaking up attention from everyone. Kids and adults alike couldn’t get enough of her.

What surprised me was how quickly the dogs got adopted. Within minutes of the event wrapping up, most of the poodles and other featured dogs had already been matched with families. I realized pretty fast that a lot of people had already been pre approved and were likely waiting for specific dogs. Some probably had applications in before we even knew the event was happening. That reality shifted my perspective on the day.

I went in without expectations, which ended up being the right call. I was there to enjoy meeting the dogs without getting emotionally attached, because I figured the odds of us finding the right fit that day were slim. One dog did come over and got comfortable sitting nearby, which was sweet, but there wasn’t that spark that makes you think this is the one. That was fine though. I was happy just spending time with them and watching everyone else connect with the pups.

Chris really enjoyed meeting Bambi too. She was the center of attention for most of the event, and if Bambi came over to you, you felt lucky. We got some time playing with her which made the afternoon worthwhile.

We’re still working through the approval process with the rescue. They mentioned more Pomeranians are coming in, so we’re keeping an eye on what’s available. I’m not in any rush, but I’m not against it either. When the time is right and there’s a real connection with the right dog, we’ll know. Both of us will feel it, and we’ll be ready. For now, days like this are a good way to spend time with dogs and stay part of the adoption community.
