AMAZE at New World Stages: A Magic Show Worth Seeing

Today we went to check out the magic show AMAZE, and while I am not the biggest magic fan, I went in with an open mind and came out genuinely glad I did. Christine enjoys magic, so it was a good fit for her. I invited my son along but he had other plans, so it ended up being just the two of us.

The show had some really impressive tricks. The illusions, the number guessing, the mind reading type stuff. There is a word for that branch of it and I am totally blanking on it right now, but he was reading people, figuring out what they were thinking, guessing things with a level of accuracy that was pretty hard to explain away. It was cool to watch. By the way, it just came to me, Mentalism.

There was also a storytelling element to the show that I did not expect. Some of it got emotional, and I will be real, I teared up a little. The story behind this performer and how he got to where he is felt like something that was just meant to be. Like this guy found exactly what he was supposed to be doing with his life. That part of the show stuck with me.

Now the backstory on how we ended up there is a little bit of a journey. We had comp tickets from New World Stages after a mix up where we ended up in the wrong show. We went to see Heathers and somehow landed in the wrong room. They offered replacement tickets but said they had to be used for the same show, which in our case would have been the Spelling Bee. The Spelling Bee does not really call to me, so when AMAZE came up as an option to purchase separately while keeping the comp tickets for the Spelling Bee, I went ahead and bought in. Thirty five dollars a ticket, and we ended up with really solid seats. The show was about to start and those seats had not been claimed, so it worked out well for everyone.

The whole experience was worth it. Fun, touching, exciting, and that closing number was something else. I do not want to spoil it but if you have ever seen The NeverEnding Story, that should give you a small hint. If you are into magic, sleight of hand, and that kind of performance, AMAZE is worth your time while it is still running.
