The job search has been tough lately, and today I got another one of those “We’ve decided to go with another candidate” emails. That’s just how it goes, though—either they pick you, or they don’t. There’s no middle ground.
The last interview was interesting for a different reason. The interviewer was typing a lot while I spoke, which isn’t unusual, but the kind of keyboard they used was ridiculously loud. It was so distracting that I struggled to focus on my answers. At one point, I even wondered if it was a test to see if I’d get flustered or call it out. I discreetly mentioned the noise, and it seemed like she tried to type more quietly after that.
I think my bigger mistake, though, was not talking enough about the company’s mission. I focused more on the technical aspects of the role, and even though she asked twice, I didn’t really dive into their focus as a company. Hindsight, right?
Anyway, another rejection in the books, but another lesson learned.
Just a life long New Yorker sharing the journey through my lens. Please take note of a post’s date. The views I express here are subject to change and evolving as I grow and learn.
