After a great rolling session, Professor Fred awarded me two stripes on my white belt. Starting fresh after a long break taught me to embrace the journey over the rank. Loving my white belt and the learning process more than ever. Osu!

Sanabul Gi Review: Lightweight, Comfortable, and Great Value for BJJ Training

02/08/2019, 7:53 am Angel Rodriguez 0

I just got a Sanabul navy blue gi, and it’s impressively light and soft—comparable to my favorite Adidas gi. At $57, it’s a great value. It fits big, but a couple of hot washes will shrink it nicely. So far, I’m really happy with this gi.

Inspired by Professor Fred’s encouragement, I’ve ramped up my BJJ training to burn fat and get lean. Training on the mats helps me rest my Achilles and build strength. With consistent effort and motivation, I’m excited to see where this journey takes me.

Don’t Tap and Tell: The Unspoken Rule in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Training

02/06/2019, 7:41 am Angel Rodriguez 0

One of the first lessons I learned in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is simple: we don’t tap and tell. Catching a higher belt happens, but sharing it isn’t part of the culture. Training is about respect, growth, and keeping what happens on the mats between you and your partner.

Hawk Jujitsu Gi Review: Affordable Durability and Comfort with Ortid’s Lightweight Option

02/06/2019, 7:29 am Angel Rodriguez 0

I got the Hawk gi for around $40 and was impressed by its durability and comfort after tough training and washing. Though my pants frayed after one use, the company resolved it fairly and sent a lightweight replacement that’s comfortable and strong. Worth checking out!

Tesla Men’s Compression 3/4 Capri Shorts Review – Comfortable, Durable Baselayer for Active Workouts

01/10/2019, 7:44 am Angel Rodriguez 0

I was hesitant to try unknown brands on Amazon until I found Tesla fitness clothing. Their tights are comfortable, stay in place during workouts, and hold up well without odors. Perfect for my Zumba classes—definitely a brand I recommend for quality activewear.

The BJJ Gauntlet: Why Belt Whipping Doesn’t Belong in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

01/07/2019, 7:35 am Angel Rodriguez 0

I’m honestly not a fan of the BJJ belt gauntlet. It’s just getting whipped for no reason—no skill test, no benefit, no growth. It’s part of the culture now, but I’ve seen it cause nasty welts and don’t believe it adds anything to your Jiu Jitsu journey.

Protecting Your Body from Injuries in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: Essential Gear and Tips

01/02/2019, 7:27 am Angel Rodriguez 1

Training Brazilian Jujitsu is tough and comes with its share of bumps and bruises. I protect my knees, elbows, toes, and always wear a mouth guard and groin cup. Stretching is key to avoid injuries. If you have tips to stay safe, feel free to share!

Episode 117 – The pain of losing my dog Peppa
by@Angelrtalk

In this deeply personal episode, Angel Rodriguez opens up for the first time about the loss of his beloved five-pound Pomeranian, Peppa, who passed away on September 3rd after a heartbreaking battle with an autoimmune disorder. Angel shares the raw, unfiltered grief of losing a dog who was more than a pet — she was his emotional support, his constant companion for seven years, and one of the purest sources of love in his life. He walks through Peppa's final days, the impossible decision at the animal hospital, and the funeral service that followed. Angel also gets candid about where he stands now — the ongoing pain, his wife Christine's desire to get another dog, and why he can't bring himself to say yes. A vulnerable, tear-filled conversation about love, loss, and what it really means to bond with an animal.
