When I think back to this night, I honestly can’t tell if I was just extremely tired and half asleep or somewhere in between. I was married at the time and staying at my mom’s place with my then wife. Sometimes my mom’s friends would come and stay over, and this was one of those nights. Her slightly younger Mexican friend was sleeping in what I believe was my little sister’s room at the time. I can’t recall exactly, but that’s not really important.
I was in bed with my wife and woke up to use the bathroom. On my way back, I walked into my sister’s room and accidentally tried to get into bed with my mom’s friend. She woke up startled and said to me in Spanish, “Angel, ¿qué tú haces? Tu esposa está en el otro cuarto.” It means, “What are you doing, Angel? Your wife is in the next room!”
I took a second to process what was happening, still pretty out of it from being half asleep. I just looked at her, turned around, and walked out like nothing happened. Then I went back and climbed into bed with my wife.
I recently ran into this friend of my mom’s at a cookout and joked about the whole thing. Honestly, I still don’t know exactly what happened that night, but it has become a funny story to bring up at family events!
