Final Cut Pro Won’t Run on Mojave? Here’s a Simple Workaround to Get It Launching Again

So if you installed Mojave without checking what programs work on it, you might be here because some apps stopped working. I found that Little Snitch broke, iPhoto broke, and of course Final Cut Pro was giving me trouble.

I was pretty frustrated when I realized this and wanted to roll back my operating system. After some research, I found that rolling back would not be easy, so I started looking into how I could fix my apps.

For Little Snitch, I just bought a new license. Apple has an upgrade option for Final Cut Pro, but I read it could be complicated and was not sure about it. Anyway, I found a fix that seems to work.

I do not know exactly why Final Cut stopped working, but this method bypasses whatever was preventing it from launching and it seems to work normally. I am not sure what is happening behind the scenes, so proceed at your own risk.

Here are the steps and it is fairly straightforward.

Step one: go to Applications and find the Final Cut Pro app with the ghostbusters symbol on it. If it is on your dock, that works as well. Right-click on it and choose “Show Package Contents.”

Next, open the “Contents” folder, then the “Mac OS” folder. Inside you will see a file called Final Cut Pro, which is a terminal file. You can create a shortcut to it on your desktop if you like. Double-clicking that file should launch Final Cut Pro.

Here you can see that I was able to access my projects and test editing one. I did not spend a lot of time or export anything, so I cannot guarantee it will not cause issues. Use this method at your own risk. I found this fix online and wanted to share it for anyone interested.

Alternatively, you can check with Apple and try to update Final Cut Pro normally. Just a heads up as I am not responsible if anything goes wrong with your system. Proceed carefully since it is unclear exactly what this workaround changes behind the scenes.
