I will never understand grown adults who litter. Never. And I am not talking about an accidental drop that you do not notice. I am talking about the deliberate, conscious decision to finish something and just toss it on the ground like the street is your personal trash can. Like the rest of us want to live in your mess.
We have all seen it. Someone finishes a coffee cup, a bag of chips, a water bottle, and instead of holding onto it for the thirty seconds it takes to find a bin, they just let it go. On the sidewalk. Out of a car window. On the subway platform. Wherever they happen to be standing when they are done with it.
You are an adult. You have been on this earth long enough to know better. This is not a complicated concept. You created the trash. It is yours. Deal with it.
What makes it worse is the complete lack of awareness or remorse. No hesitation, no look around to see if anyone noticed, no second thought whatsoever. Just total indifference to the shared space that everyone around you also has to live in.
New York is a beautiful and dynamic city underneath all the chaos. It does not need your help getting dirty. There are trash cans on virtually every corner. There is no excuse that holds up.
Pick it up. Throw it away. Act like you were raised right.
