I don’t think people realize just how difficult it is for the average person to get a shredded six-pack and keep it for any length of time. I’ve managed to do it only once in my life, and during that time, it was really tough.
I was eating tuna straight out of the can, boiled chicken breast, boiled eggs, and some leaves on the side. My sweat smelled like tuna and eggs. My girlfriend at the time used to mention how weird my clothes smelled from training, though she never complained about the six-pack.
Getting those abs was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, and for me, it’s not sustainable. These days, I’m focusing on trimming down my currently large belly to a leaner but more manageable level of body fat.
If you have a typical body type and expect to look like a bodybuilder year-round, you might be disappointed. Genetics play a significant role, and living the way you need to in order to maintain that low body fat is extremely challenging.
My advice: set realistic, reasonable goals, and focus on longevity. There can be consequences to pushing your body too hard over time, so it’s important to find a balance that works for you.
