Serrano vs. Taylor Fight Analysis: Did Serrano Truly Win or Was It Too Close to Call?

Let me start by saying that this fight was not a robbery, nor does Taylor deserve to be dismissed—far from it. The fact that we’re even debating this outcome shows how phenomenal both fighters were. This could have reasonably gone either way. That said, I need to address the headbutts and their impact on the fight. Did you see the split on Serrano’s eye? That cut was significant and undoubtedly influenced the bout’s momentum.

Here’s why I believe the decision could have gone Serrano’s way: If we agree the fight was razor close, even with the headbutts, then the deducted point should have been a key factor. It’s surprising that the result wasn’t a draw. Giving the win to Taylor, despite the point deduction in such a tight fight, raises questions. For Taylor to win outright, the judges would have had to score her far enough ahead that the point loss didn’t matter. That reasoning feels off when the fight was this close.

This was hands down the best fight of the night, but I’m conflicted about the outcome. While I wouldn’t call it a robbery, it’s tough to fully accept. At minimum, it feels like the fight could have been ruled a draw. In my view, Serrano just edged it out.

To be clear, this isn’t about discounting Taylor—she’s a warrior with undeniable heart. But when you look at how things unfolded, it’s fair to ask: what fight were the judges watching?
