I have no problem getting my hands dirty alongside the people I work with. If a task needs to get done, I am willing to do it myself, whether that means crawling under a desk to run cables or handling whatever else comes up. I would never ask anyone on my team, whether they are new or have years of experience, to do something I am not prepared to do myself.

That is the standard I hold myself to. When people see that you are willing to roll up your sleeves and get into it with them, they understand that any task asked of them is reasonable. Nobody is being handed something beneath the leader and above the team. Everything is fair game for everyone.

That is how I approach mentoring and leadership. Not from a distance, but from right there in it.
