I was saddened to learn today that the Genius, aka Leaping Lanny Poffo, had passed away. As I looked around for details, I couldn’t find anything on the cause of death. Lanny was 68 years old.
Some years ago, I performed at an event hosted by Evan Ginzburg in the city. It was at a nice, posh restaurant. Edwin Vazquez was there, and so was Leaping Lanny. My mom came to the performance as well. I did her poem turned song, “Dear Momma.”
I got to meet Lanny that day and he was cordial and kind to me. He was also friendly to my mom, who was quite happy about her poem being turned into a song. I’m sorry to hear he passed so suddenly. Rest in peace, Leaping Lanny!
