This series is kind of a mystery cop drama. It’s a fairly grave and serious show. Kate Winslet delivered a phenomenal performance in this series. She play a detective who is weighed down heavily by life’s grief, and she’s pretty much miserable throughout the whole series.
The main plot of the show is that they are trying to discover who murders a young woman. This leads to a whole bunch of other craziness and problems. I mean, damn, I feel really bad for her as a detective and what she has to do.
They live in this small town where everyone knows your name, you can just walk into your neighbor’s house, and to boot, her ex-husband and his fiancee live in the house behind hers. I mean, come on now! Interestingly, they are still friends and all have a great coparenting relationship, sort of.
There are many subplots within the show, and smaller stories that we expect may or may not tie in with the main mystery plot. I’ll say this, expect to be surprised. I think this was a well done show and totally worth a watch. Go check it out on HBOMAX.
