The level of misplaced sympathy some people show is truly baffling. Jeremy Meeks, a gang member and illegal weapons offender, is being held on nearly one million dollars bail, yet he has somehow become an overnight sensation. Why? Because people think his mugshot looks attractive. While he may be a good-looking man, that does not change the fact that he has been charged with serious crimes.

That was one of the comments I read next to his picture. I wonder how attractive people would find him if he were the one who hurt their loved ones or caused harm to innocent people. How forgiving would they be then? The level of misunderstanding on display is surprising, and it is concerning to see.
Those admiring this individual might be overlooking the bigger picture. Attitudes like these can undermine the progress of society.
