We watched Normal tonight and it was decent. Kind of crazy, really, which seems to be right in line with the films Odenkirk has been doing lately. Nobody and Nobody Two follow that same energy. They just push things to an extreme and lean into it.
Seeing the guy from Better Call Saul turn into this full on action star is still pretty funny to me, but it works. The film was entertaining, though the storyline was genuinely strange in the way things shifted direction constantly. Left to right, right to left, back again. It was hard to pin down where it was going, and honestly that was part of what made it feel so odd.
It had a little bit of a Tarantino quality to it in terms of how it was delivered, but not in an imitation kind of way. It is more the style that Odenkirk seems to gravitate toward with these projects. Unpredictable structure, weird turns, characters that do things you do not see coming.
The story was strange and the direction it took was unusual. But I will say, for something that felt that weird throughout, it was still entertaining. Sometimes that is enough.
