I was just reading a Reddit post about comic book readers. I really loved the Comixology app and how it handled reading on mobile phones. It can zoom into the individual panels, making them big enough to read on an iPhone.
I’ve been using Chunky Comic Book Reader, and it works just fine for what I need. I decided to try Panels because a developer mentioned that they are still actively working on it. Admittedly, the Reddit post was three years old.
In any case, I installed Panels, and it seems to work well as a comic book reader. It appears to have some decent functionality, but nothing impressed me enough to switch from Chunky. Honestly, I think it would create more work for me.
For example, the basic function of creating “collections” doesn’t happen by default. Maybe there is a setting, I don’t know, I didn’t feel like digging. I see you can manually create the folders, but it doesn’t group them by folder automatically. Chunky does this using the naming convention of the files.
Seeing that simple difference was enough for me to delete the files and remove the app. I just didn’t see any reason to switch from Chunky based on that one little difference. The app may be great, but I don’t see any reason to leave Chunky for it.
Just a life long New Yorker sharing the journey through my lens. Please take note of a post’s date. The views I express here are subject to change and evolving as I grow and learn.
