Percy Jackson and the lightning thief

I’ve been on an old movie watching kick, one of the recent films among a sea of many (sea what I did there) that I watched was The lightning thief. You know I’ve always wanted to read the books and I do have them, but I haven’t gotten around to it. The movies are very entertaining though, I’ve seen them all.

So this film is about a teenager who is the son of one of the original and powerful Gods, Poseidon in this case. It has long been said that the Gods like to come down among the humans and occasionally get a taste of our women. On occasion, they get one pregnant and have a child. That was the case here.

So Percy is just your average kid in school and is suddenly attacked by some gross looking creature asking for some lightning staff. Clearly this dude doesn’t have a damn clue what the hell they are talking about but soon realizes that there is more to life than meets the eye.

His closest friend turns out to be a Satyr who is meant to guard him and keep him safe. You can imagine the surprise when he realizes that his buddy not only walk fine without crutches, but he has goat legs! Bruh.

In any case, all this new information makes sense to him. It explains how he can hold his breath underwater for very long periods of time, why he can’t read properly, why he hears a voice in his head and why he’s drawn to the water, being the son of Poseidon and all.

In any case, someone stole Zeus’ lightning staff and he thinks Percy did it. So he threatens Poseidon with a war unless the staff is returned. A war between the Gods would destroy mankind and the world. Too add to the already complicated situation, doing what Hades be doing, he kidnaps Percy’s mom and tell’s him that if he doesn’t bring him the lighting rod that he’ll kill her.

The film continues from there with great visual effects, entertaining and cool villains and an all around decent story. If you haven’t watched the Percy Jackson films you are missing out. If you are a fan of fantasy movies such as Harry Potter, I think you should definitely check this one out, it’s really entertaining.
