Unlike most people out there, I try to look at issues objectively. I don’t align strongly with any particular political figure, but I believe in giving credit where it is due and holding people accountable when necessary.

With that said, I have been following the ongoing discussion around the policy of separating children from their parents at the border. I am not entirely certain whether this practice originated under the current administration or a previous one, and honestly, the origin matters less to me than the fact that it is happening now.

What I struggle to understand is the reasoning behind separating young children from their parents. If the policy is to detain, process, or return individuals who have entered the country unlawfully, why does that process require removing children from their families? I have yet to hear a satisfying answer to that question.

As someone who served this country, pays taxes, and tries to do the right thing, I find this situation deeply troubling. I believe most Americans, regardless of political affiliation, share a basic commitment to the humane treatment of children. When people feel that fundamental values are being ignored, frustration builds. History has shown us that when communities feel unheard through normal civic channels, that frustration can lead to unrest. That is not a threat; it is simply an observation worth considering.

My hope is that our leaders take this seriously and work through the proper legal and legislative channels to address the situation. Families should be kept together, and children should not bear the burden of complicated immigration policy.
