Shadow and Bone Series Review: Why Its Ending Was Nearly Perfect Despite Netflix Cancellation

I recently finished this series. There are two seasons on Netflix, and after that, it was canceled. The show has a similar feel to the cartoon Avatar because the characters have powers similar to the benders. However, in this series, they are called “Grisha.” The story revolves around one person who has the superpower to control the sun, and everyone is searching for that person. There is another character who can control the opposite, shadows and darkness. He seeks her out because he allegedly wants to make the world a better place for Grisha.

There is also a love interest and plenty of side missions that the main characters and some of the supporting characters undertake throughout the series. I do not want to drop any spoilers here, but I will say that I am okay with the show being canceled. This is not because I do not like the show; rather, I feel that if they had continued, it might have diminished what I saw as a nearly perfect ending for the series.

At the end of the show, you see what is coming next, and the whole idea did not appeal to me. Sometimes it is better to leave things as they are, and based on what I saw, I lost interest from that point on.

Honestly, it might have been better to end the series without that final part. But you know how these production houses are; they like to leave us with cliffhangers and try to extend the shows. Thankfully, we were not left with any major cliffhangers here, and as I said, I was pretty satisfied with how it ended. They probably should have just kept it that way.
