I absolutely love that despite mainstream media’s attempt to take him down, Shane Gillis surpassed all of it. They got him for a minute back when SNL fired him before he even started, but he didn’t just recover, he built something bigger than SNL probably would have given him in the first place.

Shane Gillis is a very funny guy. Right now he might be my favorite comedian next to Chappelle. His work is phenomenal and I love watching his clips. Since he hasn’t put out much new material lately, I just go back and rewatch the old stuff. His interviews, his skits on YouTube, all of it. He’s hilarious.

And ironically enough, he eventually did SNL anyway, not as a guest but as the host. That says everything about how stupid the original decision was. They dropped him over manufactured outrage, and now he’s standing on the same stage that tried to shut him out.

What gets me is how it works now. It doesn’t matter when you said something, how you said it, or what you actually meant. It gets pulled out of context, twisted around, and people go all in trying to wreck your entire life over it. Meanwhile there are people who commit actual crimes, real harm to real people, and they have an easier road back than a guy who made a joke that rubbed someone the wrong way. The energy people put into destroying someone over a statement outweighs the energy put into holding people accountable for actual harm. That imbalance is insane to me.

I am thrilled Shane Gillis made it. He’s huge, he’s got a massive fan base, and he’s still funny as hell. They tried, they failed, and I am here for every bit of it.
