I’m having a hard time getting to sleep. The combination of a headache and a very active mind has kept me awake for hours. I decided to stop fighting it and just get up. Since my phone was in another room, I had no reading material for a brief bathroom visit. I decided to pick up my Kindle, and the first thing I saw was an ad for Carl Hiaasen’s latest book, First of all, I love Carl Hiaasen as an author! He is a hilarious mystery and satire novelist, one of my all-time favorites. Skink, on the other hand, is my absolute favorite character from his books! The guy was the Governor of Florida, and one day he simply reached his breaking point with the corruption and the lies. He wanted to cause change but was blocked every time. So he left, went into the woods, and became a renegade, free-spirited wanderer of sorts. He spends his days going after lawbreakers through his own unconventional methods, usually involving some form of payback and humiliation. He is an absolutely hilarious character, Skink. I pressed that “buy” button on my Amazon Kindle faster than you can blink. I’m several pages in and can’t wait to get back to the book. They’ve already introduced Skink, who is hiding underground, breathing through a straw, looking for turtle egg poachers. I’m telling you, this guy is a trip. I didn’t know he had a new book out, so I thought I’d share this with my readers in case any of you wanted to know. I can’t wait to get back to the book!
