Sonic 2

I gotta tell you folks, this movie has got to be one of the most wholesome, entertaining movies I’ve seen in a long time. It’s funny cause growing up I was Nintendo guy. I never owned a Genesis and never really got into Sonic The Hedgehog, I was more of a Mario guy. Don’t misunderstand, I didn’t hate or dislike Sonic or Sega for that matter, I was just a Nintendo guy is all.

Somehow my son was introduced to and loved Sonic. He’s a really big fan and has been for a very long time. I’m not even sure how he was exposed to Sonic because I never owned or played it. I think it’s likely from his cousin and uncle, but I’m not sure.

In any case, the movies are a whole other story. Like I said, I didn’t really follow the games or the story lines, but I never had anything against Sonic. So when I heard they were making movies, I was definitely on board to watch. I really enjoyed the first film, and now I loved the second one.

This one seems to go a bit more deeply into the video games because they speak of chaos emeralds and bring in a few more of the characters. Eggman is still a main villain, but they introduce a few others including but not limited to Knuckles the Echidna.

By the way, I loved Idris Elba as Knuckles. His vibe gave Knuckles such a great personality. Both my son and I really loved how he was portrayed in this film. I heard that he was generally presented as a fool in the video games so it was cool to see him kind of respected here.

Tales is just the cutest and sweetest little thing ever. Even though I never really played the games, due to my son’s interest in the franchise I have come to know many of the characters. You can check out his animated stop motion channel here. He’s made many Sonic shorts.

I’m not going to drop any spoilers here or really go into the movie, but I will tell you that you have to catch this movie in the theater. It was an absolute delight with the right amount of humor, emotion, drama and a cool storyline. Whether or not you were down with the games, I think you can enjoy these films, I know I did.

My son made a pretty good video review, you can check that out here.
