Suicide Squad

So this weekend my wife and I watched both Suicide Squad movies. We decided to watch the first one because for sure it had been a long time since I’ve seen it and she wasn’t even certain if she had ever seen it yet. So we thought it would be good to watch it before watching the second one.

The thing I remembered most about the original Suicide Squad was Will Smith and his portrayal of Deadshot. I think he did such a great job in that role. Of all the musicians and television actors who moved on to film, I think that Will Smith is one of the most impressive ones, along with Jamie Foxx who also blew my mind.

The premise of the first and second film is the same thing, you have these criminals who have meta human abilities and basically they are blackmailed into doing superhero stuff in exchange for a shorter prison sentence.

I think that both movies were really good. I kind of feel like the first one may have been a bit better, but that would be unfair to say as I think that both of them did really well with the characters that they had.

I was pretty disappointed to see that not all of the characters from the first film were featured in the second one. Harley Quinn and Boomerang were really the only Squad characters from the first suicide squad and of course Colonel Flag and Waller were in there.

The first part dealt with a witch who wanted to take over the world and the second part dealt with a military regime who had in their possession a monster which could potentially destroy the world. Honestly, I don’t know how Harley Quinn survives these adventures, she’s pretty much just a regular human. But then again, so is the Joker and he gives Batman (another regular human) a run for his money.

Interestingly, in both parts you’ll find that the main characters, or at least the ones who are meant to be leaders have their children leverage against them by Waller. Waller is one nasty woman.

If you haven’t seen either of the Suicide Squad movies, I think you should check them out as they’re both really fun to watch. They give you some great laughs and also they can be pretty emotional and touching. Totally worth a watch.
