Sweet Tooth Series Review: A Heartfelt Dive into the Hybrid World

This is another show that apparently originated in comic books. Who knew that comics would one day grow to dominate TV and the big screen? I recall seeing how at one point some groups tried to get rid of comics, much like they did with other forms of entertainment.

Sweet Tooth is about a world that has pretty much fallen apart due to a lethal virus that kills people. A side effect of this virus is that babies are now becoming what are called “Hybrids,” half human and half animal. The type of animal varies.

It’s a sweet, albeit sometimes frustrating show about a hybrid kid who is being kept safe and raised away from society—whatever remains of it—but eventually has no choice but to jump in head first. Many hybrids are not accepted by their parents, so they become somewhat wild, but Sweet Tooth is raised like a human boy and can talk and behave like one. He’s unaware of much of the reality out there, which can be frustrating, but it also makes him special and endearing.

We binged this show and thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m looking to pick up the comics to get the rest of the story, and I’m also looking forward to season two. Definitely check this show out, it’s really good.
