There is a line in I Am a Flirt that has always made me stop and think, and not in a good way.
He talks about being unable to control himself around attractive women no matter where he is. Fine, that is the premise of the song. But then he drops a line directed at men in the crowd telling them that if they love their girl they should not walk up to him and introduce her.
And I had to sit with that for a second.
What man does that? What self-respecting guy walks into a club, spots a famous artist, and thinks the right move is to bring his woman over and make introductions? Like hey, meet my girlfriend. That is not a flex. That is the opposite of a flex. It is the kind of move that tells everyone in the room exactly where your head is at.
The fact that the artists felt the need to put that warning in a song tells you that it actually happens. People do this in real life. And that is the part that gets me.
I do not care about someone’s status or fame. There is no version of that scenario where I am walking my wife over to another man and saying here, meet her. None. The foolishness it takes to even think that is something I genuinely cannot relate to.
It is a small lyric in a big song but it says a lot about how some people operate in the world. Then they will cry when they lose their woman to that same famous artist.
