This movie tells the true story of women of color in the army during World War II. At the time, there was a major issue with getting mail to soldiers in the field and to their families back home. The army tried different groups, including white female soldiers, but nothing worked. The delays continued to hurt morale both abroad and at home.
That’s where this incredible unit came in. At first, the generals laughed and refused to give them the job. After all, how could they succeed when white male and female soldiers had failed?
But these women proved everyone wrong. They built a system to sort and deliver the mail when everything and everyone seemed to be working against them, even hoping they would fail. The film shows how perseverance, willpower, and intelligence can win out even in the harshest conditions.
Throughout the movie, I was moved to tears many times. It is a masterpiece, and I highly recommend watching it. Finally, I want to say thank you to the women of the 6888 for what they did for our soldiers and for the American people back home. Despite the terrible way you were treated, you are true heroes.
