The Energy Is Real, But the Title “Activist” Is a Stretch

Someone recently asked if I was a “Zumba activist.” Honestly, I find that a little corny.

A Zumba activist? Not exactly. I show up, teach my classes, bring the energy, and do my job. People leave feeling good, spirits lifted, and sometimes they pull me aside to say I am the best instructor they have ever had. That means a lot to me.

But outside of class, it stays professional. I tend to keep a natural distance from students beyond the studio setting, and I am completely fine with that. My goal was never to build a social circle through Zumba. It was to walk in, do something I love, make people feel good for an hour, and walk out.

With a few exceptions, I do not engage with students outside of class, and that boundary has always worked well for me. It keeps things clean, focused, and genuine.

If doing the job right and keeping it professional makes me an activist in someone’s eyes, I will take it.
