This is the second time I’ve had a version of this dream and it stays with me long after I wake up.
The setting is always some kind of gathering, a home filled with a mix of family, friends, and people I can’t quite place. There’s a lot going on. At one point we’re on a train, and my wife goes one way while I go another, so I make my way over to where she is just to be close and make sure she’s okay. That part feels natural, instinctive.
But back at the house, things shift. She’s being dismissive and openly challenging everything I represent, and instead of anyone stepping in or even staying neutral, the people around us are encouraging it. Feeding it. And I’m standing there feeling this wave of frustration and anger that I can’t fully describe, wanting to shut the whole thing down but knowing that the only ways my mind is offering up to do that are not options I would ever actually take.
So even inside the dream, I hold it together. I don’t do anything I wouldn’t do in real life. My wits stay intact even when everything around me is pushing me toward a reaction I refuse to give.
It’s a strange and uncomfortable dream to sit with. There’s embarrassment in it, real anger, and this feeling of being completely surrounded with no clean way out. But somehow I stay the course every time.
I don’t know exactly what it means. But the fact that it keeps coming back probably means there’s something there worth paying attention to.
