Wifey and I are still deep into Vikings Valhalla and things are getting intense.
Harald has carved out an impressive position for himself in Constantinople. He has rank, he has respect, and he has the kind of standing that most men in that world would have killed for. The guy has everything going for him right now.
And then there is the empress.
Look, I get it. Their connection was real before either of them knew who the other truly was. There was something genuine there and that kind of bond does not just disappear because the circumstances changed. The energy between them is undeniable and the show makes you feel it.
But Harald is playing a dangerous game and I think he knows it.
Hooking up with the empress of Constantinople when you are a high ranking foreign officer in her husband’s court is not just risky. It is the kind of move that ends careers, ends alliances, and ends lives. Everything he has built, every sacrifice that got him to this point, is sitting on the table and he is gambling with it for something that has no future.
I understand the heart wants what it wants. But this is not a situation where following your feelings is just reckless. It is potentially fatal.
In my opinion this is going to be part of his downfall. The show has been building toward it and Harald is walking straight into it with his eyes open. That is almost harder to watch than if he did not see it coming.
