Waiting Over a Day for an Autograph? I Could Never.

Guys line Medium

Someone posted that they waited in line for over a day just to get an Undertaker autograph. Over a day. And then paid the man on top of it.

I could not make that up if I tried.

I am not here to tell anyone how to spend their time or their money. People are going to do what they are going to do and if standing in line for that long to meet a professional wrestler brings someone genuine joy then that is their business. But personally I have never understood it and I probably never will.

The concept of being so enthralled with another human being that you would sacrifice that many hours of your life just to stand in front of them for a few seconds and walk away with a signed piece of paper has always been lost on me. What are you going to do with that paper? Where does it go? What does it mean six months from now? I am genuinely asking.

I will say this. I stood in line once to meet some YouTube personalities, but that was for my son. He was younger and they were his guys and I was there as his father, not as a fan. That does not really count. I remember once I went to a YouTube meetup, and I thought people were going to hang out, but no, it was lines of fans for these famous YouTubers. I didn’t stay there long. Like I said, I don’t fan boy for any human being.

Outside of that one time with my son, I cannot think of a single time in my life where I was enough of a fan of any person to wait in a long line just to be in their presence. There are people I would have liked to meet over the years, sure. But go out of my way, block out a full day, say hi for two seconds, and then pay for an autograph at the end? That has never been me.
