When a Client Says “I’m Glad It’s You”: What That Moment Really Means

Years ago, the phone rang. I picked up. The person on the other end asked if it was me by name, and when I said yes, they said they were glad it was me.

That is a small moment but it means something.

What made it stand out was that I had only been in that role for a short time. On a fairly sizable team, I had managed to build that kind of trust quickly, and that does not happen by accident.

It was the result of every time I went a little further than I had to. Every time I followed up without being asked. Every time I treated someone’s problem like it actually mattered instead of just closing the ticket and moving on.

You cannot manufacture that kind of trust. You earn it through consistency, dedication, and accountability. When it showed up in a moment as simple as a phone call, it was a good reminder that the extra effort is never wasted. That lesson stuck with me and I carried it into every role I took on after that.
