I’ve never been to a Zumba jam, cruise, convention, none of that stuff. Honestly, I don’t really care for it. I’ve heard from people who I respect in the game that they are helpful and fun, but for the time being, I can’t be bothered.
Here are the whys, feel free to address or correct any wrong assumptions I may have made.
Zumba Jams: People tout these as beneficial because they are given new music as well as new choreo. Some say they are lazy and they love that they are provided new music and choreography. I think that could be really cool, but…. What if you don’t like the song selections? What if the dances are not your speed? You pay in advance, and you are stuck there for hours learning some songs and choreo that you don’t care about. Nope, I’m not interested. Unless I can hear the songs and preview the choreo before signing up, then maybe I’d do it. One of my Zumba friends told me that you actually do get to hear the songs before hand, if that’s true, then I’d be more inclined to join one of these.
Cruise: This seems to me like its just overpriced, and pretty much like any other cruise, except that you can dance zumba all day. Am I right? Correct me if I’m wrong. I don’t see the value in paying a premium to dance Zumba when I teach it myself and can do it for free on any given day. All I have to do is put on my headphones and dance, or just show up to a class.
Convention: This is the biggest Zumba event of the year. As an outsider looking in though, it appears to me as though this is just one major ass kissing event for Zumba famous people. I sense that everyone cliques up into little groups, and if you ain’t down you are left out. Personally, I don’t glorify or worship anyone in the game, not Beto, not anyone. I’m also not a fan of cliques. I just do this for fun. If Beto called me to hang out, then I’d be down. But I’m not going to go to some event that is going to make his or any of their heads any bigger.
Academy: Same as Convention, but on a smaller more local scale.
Maybe one day I’ll try one of these, and maybe my whole view will change, but as it stands, nah, I’m good.
People keep asking me why I never go, and these are some of the answers as to why I don’t go to any of those events. Mind you, my opinions are formulated based off of what I see and hear from people in person, posts, etc. I might be all wrong and realize that some day, but I’m speaking on how I feel and perceive it as of this moment. If that ever changes, I’ll update this post. Finally, I hope I’m not hurting any feelings with my opinion, I know how protective some of you are towards the Zumba brand.
Just a life long New Yorker sharing the journey through my lens. Please take note of a post’s date. The views I express here are subject to change and evolving as I grow and learn.
