I used to be a huge fan of Evernote. For years it was my go to app for note taking, and I genuinely thought it did the job well. But somewhere along the way things changed. The app started feeling unreliable and clunky. It seemed like they kept piling features on top of features until the whole thing became bloated and difficult to navigate. I just stopped enjoying using it.

Then there was the pricing. After a while I started questioning what I was actually getting for my money. The value proposition didn’t add up anymore, not for me anyway. So I made the switch.

These days I use Apple’s native Notes app and it works better for me. It does everything I need. It syncs seamlessly between my iPhone and my iMac without any fuss. It’s simple, it’s reliable, and it’s already built into the devices I use every day. The one thing I wish it had was a dedicated Windows app so I could manage notes from my work computer more easily, but the web version gets the job done just fine.

I’m not sure what direction Evernote went or what the thinking was behind all those changes, but for me it became too much. Sometimes simpler is better.
