We went to a puppy yoga club event this morning. It was structured like the kitty yoga class we did before, about thirty minutes of low intensity yoga and stretching, followed by thirty minutes of playtime with puppies instead of cats.

The puppies today were so cute. There were Pomeranians, a cockapoo, some pom mixed breeds, and what looked like a young German Shepherd Pom mix. They were tiny and adorable, probably around eight weeks old. Playing with them was completely different from the golden doodles we tried to foster before. These little guys were calmer and easier to manage. One was napping nearly the whole time, totally unbothered. A couple others were wrestling around.

I noticed right away there was a kids birthday party happening at the same event. When I first heard that, I had a moment of concern. I figured it would be chaos with a bunch of children and puppies in one room. But the staff handled it really well. They had everyone sit in a circle to contain the puppies and let them come to us naturally. The kids turned out to be well behaved and treated the dogs with respect. I did see one child almost drop a puppy, but staff corrected that immediately. It was clear the staff takes puppy safety seriously. They emphasized it multiple times and mentioned they have cameras monitoring everything. That put me at ease.

I was nervous about puppy safety from the start. When I had my own puppy, I didn’t let kids hold her. They’re just too fragile, and it’s our job to protect them. These folks do that job well.
The cost was about 120 dollars for my wife and me. It’s not cheap, but the event was well organized. The yoga instructor was nice, the staff was attentive, and the puppies were fantastic. My wife and I both had a great time. I got emotional for a bit, but honestly the puppies kept me entertained enough that it didn’t last long. We’re thinking we might do this again.

To be real, the yoga part is just an excuse to get in the door. I wouldn’t mind skipping that entirely and spending the whole hour just playing with puppies. Next week we’re going to a rescue puppy yoga event through a local dog rescue organization called Korean K9 Rescue, and the tickets are 45 dollars each. The money goes directly to helping rescue puppies, which I like. If you’re into dogs, I’d say this type of event is worth checking out. It is an absolute delight and joy to be surrounded by cute little puppies. Such a treat.
