Mental Health Checkups

I was speaking with someone and they said something that really resonated with me. “Angel, every year we go to the doctor to get a checkup of our body. We get a checkup of our teeth and so on. So, why is it a stigma or so often neglected to check your head out?”

I had never really thought of it that way. I think that people go to therapy only when things are terrible or something is wrong. They do not go for a checkup or after a traumatic event and so on. We generally put it off until things hit the fan. A perfect example would be me, I have been seemingly fine, tolerating life and living normal, until I wasn’t. Now I am having perpetual and regular panic attacks. Perhaps if I started therapy or took better care of my mind, I wouldn’t be in this situation.

So, I guess the point of it all is, don’t wait until your brain breaks, go and get it looked at and make sure you are okay now. Don’t wait until the breaking point when it is infinitely harder to recover.
