Music, Milestones, and the Great Divide: Reflections on the Super Bowl

02/12/2026, 4:59 pm Angel Rodriguez 0

Seeing Bad Bunny perform at the Super Bowl was powerful, but the intense reactions reveal deep divisions. While music can inspire, it can’t solve political issues alone. I hope we can appreciate these moments as celebrations rather than battlegrounds, allowing space for real change to grow.

Helping Hands: A Ride Home from Rikers and Stories of Survival

02/17/2025, 4:46 am Angel Rodriguez 0

I helped two men recently released from jail by letting them use my phone and calling them rides home. Talking with them about their time in Rikers Island gave me a new perspective. Helping others in tough spots feels right, even with the risks involved.

Mistaken Identity: How I Got Dragged Into TikTok Drama Over a Trump-Supporting Angel Rodriguez

11/26/2024, 4:09 am Angel Rodriguez 0

There’s another Angel Rodriguez who voted for Trump, and now I’m getting blamed for his actions on TikTok. It’s wild how people don’t double-check and just attack. Even worse, that Angel faces racism from his own neighbors despite sharing their views. This whole mix-up is just crazy.

Why Was Murderer Travis Lewis Released from Prison Before Committing More Crimes?

11/24/2024, 7:25 pm Angel Rodriguez 0

A man released after serving time for a teenage murder committed new, tragic crimes in the same home years later. Prejudiced Police Officer Dismisses Young Boy’s Claims of Bullying Without Empathy

11/07/2023, 5:49 pm Angel Rodriguez 0

At a hospital waiting room, I saw a young boy hurt after visiting a high school to talk, not fight. Despite his and his mother’s clear denials, the police accused him of starting the violence. Their dismissive attitude left me unsettled by the lack of empathy shown.

Mentally Ill Atlanta Veteran Shooter: Examining Gun Access and Mental Health Risks

05/08/2023, 7:45 am Angel Rodriguez 0

Mental illness is real, and those struggling with anger or impaired judgment should be carefully evaluated before accessing firearms. Whether legal or illegal, guns in the hands of individuals facing mental health challenges often lead to tragic outcomes. Proper support and judgment are essential for safety.

Gun Buyback Failures: Why Access to Safe Firearm Disposal Information Is Lacking

01/24/2023, 7:48 am Angel Rodriguez 0

Finding reliable information on safe, anonymous gun buyback programs remains frustratingly difficult. As a law-abiding citizen, I’ve faced dead ends trying to learn about these efforts. Leaders and police must make disposing of illegal firearms easier and more transparent to truly remove guns from our streets.

Episode 116 – BJJ Safety, Abuse Concerns, and Changing Attitudes in the Jiu Jitsu Community
by@Angelrtalk

Some time ago, I wrote a post saying I wasn’t completely comfortable with my wife training jiu jitsu with men. The reaction from many practitioners was intense. I was called insecure, and some people insisted that abuse simply doesn’t happen in the BJJ community.

Since then, I’ve seen more and more posts and discussions acknowledging that jiu jitsu has had issues with grooming and abuse, and that these problems have existed for years. It’s been interesting to watch that shift. When I first shared my concerns, a lot of higher belts and experienced practitioners dismissed my perspective. Now, many of those same types of voices openly recognize that these problems are real.

That contrast is hard to ignore. I talk about it in more detail in episode 116.

I saw something similar during my time in the military. In environments that are heavily male dominated, with very few women, the risk of misconduct can increase. My concerns were never about insecurity. They were about awareness, caution, and looking out for the people I care about.
