The key to fitness!

The one most important point that I emphasize to people as the key to fitness is an understanding that it doesn’t happen overnight. Come to that understanding, know it, and live with it. Once you understand this simple fact, then everything else will become easier.

Earlier, I covered the I’m getting ready for summer trap, a prison that many of us fall or have fallen into. A recipe for disaster, failure, and much disappointment. Nothing zaps your fitness aims as quickly as setting unrealistic or pressure based goals that are super difficult or nearly impossible to meet.

Today is September 6, 2017, where will you be on September 6, 2018? Unless you die, or are met with some very unfortunate circumstances, you have some degree of control about where you will be a year from now. At least as far as fitness is concerned. You may or may not be at your target weight or goal, but you can be working towards it. I know that this time next year, I’ll be at, or closer to my goals. What’s the alternative? That you are exactly where you are today, whining and crying about being unable to change. Get it?

Time is going to pass, know and understand this. It is going to happen, the question is, where will you be, and what will you be doing as it passes? On a personal note, I have not yet hit my original goal, and it’s been two years now! I’m not where I want to be yet, but I’m much closer than I was 6 months ago, and way closer than I was two years ago.

At the time, it seemed like an impossible feat, but here I am still fighting the good fight. So understand this key point, the time will pass. Where you will be is entirely up to you. Don’t set unrealistic goals, don’t try to cram all the exercise in during the month before summer, or the wedding, or whatever. Know that it takes a lot of time, and just keep chipping and grinding away at your goals. Even once you reach them, guess what happens next? You must maintain them, this is a lifestyle choice!

Winter is coming, and this is a time that many people begin to slack off. Take advantage of their weaknesses and the less crowded gyms! Make this the time that you push pass everyone else who stays home because of a little snow! Then when they return during the spring and summer, you can be the person they ask, “How did you do it?”

Like it or not, the time is gonna pass, so go ahead and make it work for you!
